Therapy for Teens in Portland, OR

You (or a your teen) might be looking for support around…

  • Facing changes that feel confusing, painful, or out of your control

  • Feeling overwhelmed by pressure, stress, or uncertainty

  • Questioning who you are or how you fit in

  • Struggling with friendships, relationships, or social dynamics

  • Finding school or work exhausting or hard to manage

  • Feeling disconnected from family or unsure how to talk to them

  • Worried you’re supposed to have it all figured out already

If you’ve ever felt misunderstood or like you didn’t have a space to talk honestly, you’re not alone. We’re here to offer a supportive and affirming space where you can be yourself and work through whatever is on your mind, at your own pace.

And if you’re not totally sold on therapy or think it might be awkward, pointless, or just not for you? That’s okay too. We’ll meet you where you are, with no pressure and no pretending.

Going to therapy as a teen can feel daunting. You want to share freely, be taken seriously, and not feel pressured to be perfect.

Our therapists bring years of experience working creatively with teens, including queer, trans, and neurodivergent youth. We’ve supported teens with self-expression, emotional regulation, identity exploration, building resilience, and finding and honoring their strengths. We aim to show up with curiosity, respect, and a deep belief in each young person’s capacity for insight and growth.

You might want to talk, write, or make art. This can all be integrated into therapy with teens or young adults.

Our therapists have experience with using storytelling, writing, and making art with teens and young adults a way to express what’s hard to put into words and feel seen and supported without pressure to perform or explain. Alternative ways of communicating can help regulate emotions, strengthen self-understanding, and foster a sense of agency.

Creative expression has also been shown to reduce stress, support identity development, and improve communication and connection with others.

Therapy can help teens and young adults with:

  • Dealing with loss, family changes, or big transitions

  • Exploring gender, sexuality, and other parts of identity

  • Making sense of cultural and societal expectations that feel limiting

  • Managing fear, anger, or uncertainty about the world around you

  • Navigating friendships, dating, and relationship challenges

  • Working through school, work, or life pressure

  • Understanding and expressing emotions that feel confusing or intense

  • Feeling more confident in who you are and what you care about

  • Finding new ways to express yourself through art, writing, or movement

  • Creating space to imagine a future that feels meaningful, even in chaotic times

Danielle Maveal (she/her), Art Therapy Intern

Meet Your New Therapist, Danielle!

My work supports people returning to their own knowing, the kind that gets buried under years of cultural messages, coping strategies, and all the ways life asks us to forget who we are to make it through. I love working with teens & hope to offer a therapy experience that is truly affirming, supportive, and maybe even fun!

As a fat, queer, neurodivergent person, I’ve lived in a body and mind that often aren’t understood. I know what it’s like to be told you’re too much, or not enough, or somehow both at once.

I’m currently earning my Master of Science in Art Therapy at Lewis & Clark College, where my clinical work focuses on relational trauma, fat liberation, and affirming care for people whose bodies, identities, or ways of being are often misunderstood or excluded.

We offer therapy for teens (especially neurodivergent teens, queer teens, trans teens & teens in bigger bodies) in NE Portland, OR.
